Early life

Raised in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Lamont Coleman emerged from the lyrical-miracle battle scene as a teenager and joined the collective Children of the Corn alongside a young Cam'ron and Mase.

Career

His 1995 debut "Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous" became an underground classic for its dark humor and razor-sharp punchlines, and he founded Flamboyant Entertainment shortly before his murder in 1999.

Major achievements

Though commercially overlooked in his lifetime, his posthumous album "The Big Picture" went gold and cemented his reputation among purists.

Legacy

Big L is revered as one of Harlem's finest wordsmiths, an MC whose punchline density influenced a generation of lyricists.
