Early life

A Compton native, Eric Wright used money from his early life on the streets to found Ruthless Records, then assembled the seminal group N.W.A.

Career

As N.W.A's frontman and financier, he helped release "Straight Outta Compton," launched the careers of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, and scored solo success with "Eazy-Duz-It."

Major achievements

He pioneered the gangsta rap business model and built Ruthless into a powerhouse before his death from AIDS in 1995.

Legacy

Dubbed the "Godfather of Gangsta Rap," Eazy-E's entrepreneurial vision shaped the explosion of West Coast hip-hop.
