Early life
Born in West Point in 1898, Puller left the Virginia Military Institute to enlist in the Marine Corps.

Over a 37-year career he fought in the Caribbean, the Pacific in World War II, and Korea, notably at the Chosin Reservoir.

He received five Navy Crosses, more than any other Marine.
Legacy
Puller remains a legendary figure in Marine Corps lore, invoked in the traditional refrain "Good night, Chesty, wherever you are."
