Early life
Raised in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, Christopher Wallace was a gifted student who turned to street life and battle rapping in his teens before a demo tape reached producer Sean "Puffy" Combs.
Career
His 1994 debut "Ready to Die" established him as the voice of East Coast hip-hop, blending vivid street narratives with effortless charisma. He mentored the group Junior M.A.F.I.A. before his murder in 1997, shortly before the release of "Life After Death."
Major achievements
"Life After Death" debuted at number one and was certified diamond. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
Legacy
