Early life

Born Kasseem Dean and raised in the Bronx, Swizz Beatz immersed himself in DJ culture as a teenager and began producing for his uncles' Ruff Ryders label while still in his teens, crafting the aggressive, keyboard-driven beats that powered DMX's earliest hits.

Career

He became one of hip-hop's defining producers, supplying anthems for Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Eve, T.I., and his wife Alicia Keys, and serving a stint as a creative figure at Reebok. During the pandemic he co-created the wildly popular Verzuz battle series with Timbaland, reframing music nostalgia for the streaming age.
