Born in Norfolk in 1955, Strange grew up at his father's golf course and became an All-American at Wake Forest.

He won 17 PGA Tour titles and captured the U.S. Open in both 1988 and 1989.

He was the first golfer to win consecutive U.S. Opens since Ben Hogan and is in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
