Early life
Born Bernard Freeman and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, Bun B formed the duo UGK (Underground Kingz) with Chad "Pimp C" Butler in the late 1980s, fusing Southern soul, blues, and gritty street narratives into a sound that became a cornerstone of Texas and Southern rap.
Career
UGK built a fiercely loyal regional following before achieving national recognition through the classic "Big Pimpin'" with Jay-Z, and Bun B sustained a respected solo career after Pimp C's death in 2007. He later co-taught a "Religion and Hip-Hop Culture" course at Rice University and became a beloved cultural ambassador and entrepreneur.
