Early life
Shamann Cooke was born on July 19, 1982, and grew up in a household with his four brothers in the Chippenham Apartments of Southside Richmond, Virginia. He came up chasing music and started out as a rapper, but after learning the craft of production he chose to focus one hundred percent on making beats. He took on the name "Beat Billionaire," which he has said came to him in a dream in which the only path he saw to becoming a billionaire was through his beats.
Career
Cooke moved to New York early on, working with hip-hop veterans including Method Man, Redman, Das EFX, and K-Solo. Producer Parrish Smith introduced him to T.I.'s Grand Hustle, and he began crafting records for the label's roster, including T.I., Young Dro, Yung LA, and Gucci Mane. He later signed with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group, where he produced for the entire MMG roster and became one of the imprint's go-to beatmakers, and he has also been affiliated with Roc Nation.
Major achievements
Beat Billionaire is best known for producing Rick Ross' 2010 hit "John Doe" and Wale's single "Bag of Money" (featuring Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and T-Pain), which reached number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100. His biggest record is "Purple Lamborghini," the Rick Ross and Skrillex collaboration from the 2016 film "Suicide Squad," which peaked at number 33 on the Hot 100, number 7 on the rap charts, and number 6 on the hot dance/electronic chart, going on to be certified RIAA Platinum and earning him a 2016 Grammy Award nomination. His wider production discography spans records for Birdman, Ca$h Out, Boosie Badazz, Future, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti, and French Montana.
Legacy
A Richmond, Virginia native who turned a self-taught passion into a career behind the boards, Beat Billionaire built a reputation as a dependable hitmaker for two of the South's most influential labels, Grand Hustle and Maybach Music Group, helping shape the sound of a generation of trap and Southern hip-hop. He has an estimated net worth of $9 million.
